Published in 1870, the novel recounts the journey of three castaways captured by Captain Nemo, this mysterious inventor who travels the seabed aboard the Nautilus, submarine very ahead of the technologies of the time. Dupont tells two other chapters: «4000 leagues under the Pacific», chapter 18 of the book, and «Gulf Stream», chapter 19 of its second part. In the latter, Jules Verne evokes the Gulf Stream, a natural force shaping the movement of the oceans and those who are there.
